Our latest Food and Beverage project was for The Dumpling Lady's newest location, housed within The Alley at Charlotte's Latta Arcade. The Alley features "walkable eats," with various vendor stalls offering elevated street food from local chefs, bakers, and former food trucks.
Our project for The Dumpling Lady consisted of a 450 square foot food stall upfit within the existing hall. The scope included demolition, custom millwork, food service equipment installation, upscale finishes, and MEP.
Our crew had to overcome several unique challenges along the way. The alley behind the building was extremely small—too small to accommodate most construction equipment. This complicated certain aspects of the job, like constructing a steel platform for the HVAC system. The busy food hall in the heart of Uptown was also fully operational throughout construction. Working around these obstacles in order to bring in the necessary equipment proved to be difficult, but the Liles team managed to come up with creative solutions to get the job done.
After successfully selling their food at local farmer's markets, The Dumpling Lady eventually opened a thriving food truck in 2015. Today they have three brick and mortar locations in Optimist Hall, the South End, and Uptown with quite the cult following across Charlotte.
