G.W. Liles Construction Company, Inc., now known as Liles Construction, was founded in 1984 by George W. Liles, Jr. In our more than three decades of operation, Liles Construction has established an excellent reputation as a versatile and accommodating general contractor, and the premiere commercial contracting firm in North and South Carolina. 

The company's longevity can be attributed to its commitment to integrity.

History of Liles Construction

George "Jock" Liles started Liles Construction in 1984 as a residential contracting firm specializing in upscale custom homes. While Mr. Liles enjoyed the intricacy of residential construction, he soon realized that his professional expertise was better suited to the commercial and industrial realm of the construction market. Thus, in 1987 the company became incorporated as G.W. Liles Construction Company, Inc. and changed its focus from residential building to commercial and industrial general contracting.

The company expanded its municipal and institutional experience in the early 1990s with the building of the Cabarrus Academy (Cannon School) campus. Since that first job at Cannon School, the company has gone on to build county schools, university buildings, and municipal buildings throughout the Piedmont of North Carolina.

Despite a few previous historic renovation projects, Liles's reputation for adaptive reuse success became known with the succesful completion of the first phase of the historic Gibson Mill renovation in Concord. Since then, the team has successfully completed of 30 adaptive reuse projects throughout the Carolinas.

In 2023, Liles Construction expanded fully into South Carolina, and opened a second office in Spartanburg, S.C., to better serve our clients. Liles Construction now serves commercial, education, food & beverage, retail and adaptive reuse clients throughout both Carolinas.

The company is proud to say that many of its employees that were working on houses in the 1980s are still with the company and have moved on to some of the largest projects in the company's history. Through changes in the construction industry, recessions, and new technologies, Liles Construction has kept the same commitment of quailty and integrity to its employees, subcontractors, and clients since its beginnings in 1984.
