Liles Construction Company was started in 1984 by George W. Liles, Jr. as a residential contracting firm specializing in upscale custom homes. While Mr. Liles enjoyed the intricacy of residential construction, he soon realized that his professional expertise was better suited to the commercial and industrial realm of the construction market. Thus, in 1987 the company became incorporated as G.W. Liles Construction Company, Inc. and changed its focus from residential building to commercial and industrial general contracting.

In 1993, the Company undertook its first multi-million dollar project with the construction of the Concord Medical Mall for NorthEast Medical Center in Concord. This 29,000 square foot facility was the first physician’s medical office building to be located on the Medical Center’s campus. Since then, Liles Construction Company has maintained an ongoing relationship with NorthEast and continues to provide construction services to both the medical center and many of the physicians and support agencies associated with it. Other notable medical projects undertaken by Liles include NEMC’s Medical Office Building at Renaissance Square, two buildings for Dermatology Group of the Carolinas, Cabarrus Pediatric Clinic, Renaissance Plastic Surgery, Paragon Surgical Group, Weddington Internal Medicine and numerous other clinical buildings, renovations and upfits throughout the area.

One of the Company’s hallmark projects is the campus wide construction of Cannon School in Cabarrus County. The original lower & middle school facility was completed in 1996 and has since grown to include two classroom wing additions (1998), a full kitchen and cafeteria, two gymnasiums and a two-story high school (2001) all totaling well in excess of 100,000 square feet. Liles Construction also built Lake Norman High School for Iredell/Statesville Schools; this project, completed in 2002, consists of a 160,000 square foot facility with site infrastructure, football stadium, track, field, tennis and baseball facilities all included for a total project cost in excess of $18,000,000.

Through the years Liles Construction Company has established an excellent reputation as a versatile and accommodating general contractor with a broad array of knowledge in many realms of the construction industry. An area of particular expertise is bank facilities; Liles has established itself as a reliable resource for institutions such as Bank of North Carolina, Call Federal Credit Union, F & M Bank, Family Trust Credit Union, First Charter National Bank and Wachovia. To date, the company has completed in excess of thirty projects for financial institutions and continues to be called on, regularly, for its bank building proficiency.

Other notable projects include the interior upfit of sixteen retail spaces, over 127,000 square feet of area, at the expansive Concord Mills Mall, and an impressive US headquarters facility for Delle Vedove, an Italian furniture equipment manufacturer located at North Lake Business Park in Charlotte. This project, designed by Tom Moore of Architectvs, received special recognition from the American Institute of Architects for its unique exterior façade and interior entrance features. It represents one of many successful industrial projects completed by Liles.

Since 1989, the company has evolved and grown, both in size and stature, to become one of the premiere commercial contracting firms in the southern piedmont region of North Carolina. To date Liles Construction Company has successfully completed over 600 commercial construction projects with total contract sales exceeding $1.5 billion.
